Radio Coverage Engineering

To solve both indoor and outdoor coverage issues, SEE has adopted a suite of radio coverage simulation software designed to calculate both indoor coverage (within buildings, offshore platforms, ships, tunnels etc.) and outdoor coverage.

The experience and expertise SEE has built over decades is then used to analyse the simulation and achieve optimum network architecture, taking into account any necessary trade‐offs between budget and needs.

Calculation of Indoor Coverage

Our software allows radio coverage simulations to be run on indoor environments (buildings, shopping centres, ships, off‐shore platforms, etc.).

Starting with maps in PDF or DWG format, along with overlays for the different materials making up the walls, doors, partitions, windows, etc., the software calculates theoretical radio coverage, taking a range of technical parameters into consideration:

o   Absorption by different materials (glass, metal, plaster, etc.) at different frequencies

o   Transmitter and receiver power

o   Traffic (Erlang measurements)

This solution may be used for any type of coverage:

o   Mobile communications: GSM, UMTS, LTE, 2G, 3G, 4G, at 700 / 800 / 900 / 1800 / 2100 / 2600 MHz

o   Critical communications: TETRA, TETRAPOL, INPT, GSM‐R, DMR, PMR, at 400 / 700/ 800 / 900 / 1800 / 2100 / 2600 MHz

 

Calculation of Outdoor Coverage

Our software allows to produce outdoor radio coverage surveys, with result maps that may be overlaid via the Google® Earth® API.

Combined with downloadable maps with associated GPS and height data, the software can be used to infer radio coverage from known scenarios, or to optimise:

o   Transmitter and receiver placement

o   Antenna heights and coverage patterns

o   Frequencies involved

Once the simulation is complete, the result may be used to optimise the positioning of transmitter or re‐transmitter sites, and provides a representation that can be overlaid on top of Google® Earth® maps.

This solution is available for any type of coverage:

o   Mobile communications: GSM, UMTS, LTE, 2G, 3G, 4G, at 700 / 800 / 900 / 1800 / 2100 / 2600 MHz
